Watching the canoes, kayaks and pedalos dotted around the man-made lake, it's hard to believe that Mooragh Park started out as a tidal swamp.
Along the northern coast of Ramsey promenade sits Mooragh Park, a purpose-built leisure centre and park with a 12 acre boating lake at its heart.
In 1881 Ramsey Town Commissioners bought the plot - a 200 acre tidal swamp - for £1,200, and it was opened to the public as a pleasure park six years later.
Events were held often, as they are now, and it continues to be a popular gathering place for the island.
The man-made boating lake hosts a wide range of watersport activities throughout the year, including canoeing, kayaking and sailing. Hire the boats and set off alone, or sign up for one of the many coaching lessons led by experienced instructors.
A path wraps around the entire perimeter of the lake, and offers stunning views to leisurely walkers. It's also the venue for Manx Sport and Recreation's regular Walk and Talk sessions, and outdoor exercise equipment can be found nearby.
Tennis courts, a bowling green and a crazy golf course all prove popular in the summer months, and the pretty gardens play host to band concerts regularly.
Children can enjoy an extensive playground, as well as the Island's only water play facility.
The BMX track is run and operated by Ramsey BMX Club, but when they're not hosting an event it's free to use by anyone.
The Boat House Cafe operates seasonally, and the Costa Restaurant/Cafe is open all-year-round. The park also boasts excellent picnic facilities.
Mooragh Park is open all year round, and is situated along Mooragh Promenade in Ramsey.
There is a large purpose-built car park that visitors can use for free, with disabled access to the site.
Admission to the park is free, but there is a charge for some activities.
