The Children’s Centre will continue to support an inclusion project run by Manx Mencap.
Based at the Community Farm the initative has been successfully running for over five years.
During this time the farm-based project has provided meaningful pursuits and pathways for young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities.
From nurturing new-born lambs, or sowing a potato crop, rural learning provides an opportunity to develop skills, friendships, work ethic, positive self-concepts, behavioural and emotional management and resilience.
The project revolves around four key areas:
- farm and horticultural work
- social enterprise
- community volunteering
- social experiences
Manx Mencap is a local charity with the object of assisting in any way to people with a learning disability, or their families/carers who live on the Isle of Man.
Inclusion Manager Llinos Cowsill says: “We are so overwhelmed with the support shown by the Manx Mencap and their ongoing support towards the project.
"The project enables young adults to truly thrive in a dynamic environment allowing the attendees gain confidence and create diverse, necessary and useful roles.
"It truly demonstrates what they can give, and not what they can’t."
