Tourism businesses on the Isle of Man are being invited to learn more about the Equality Act.

An information session is being held at the iMuseum in Douglas on Wednesday at 6pm.

The first phase of the Equality Act 2017 came into force on 1st January 2019 and supports government’s commitment to tackling the inequalities in our Island society. 

The Act aims to protect individuals from discrimination, harassment and victimisation in both the workplace and the provision of goods and services. 

MHK Rob Callister has responsibility for Visit Isle of Man – he says: “It is important for businesses to understand their legal obligations under the Equality Act and any process or operational changes that may need to be considered.

“This session is one of the many ways in which Visit Isle of Man supports the tourism industry and all businesses operating in the industry are encouraged to attend this session.”

Government Equality Adviser Dawn Kinnish says: “I understand first-hand the needs and demands of the industry as well as the importance of ensuring all visitors receive a first-class experience. 

“As tourism businesses operating in the Isle of Man, it is important that we understand the diverse range of clients who access our services and that we recognise and respect those differences in order to maximise our customer base and offer a positive experience, right from the promotion to enquiry to booking and finally, the visit.”
