Progress report on future of Island's health service to go to Tynwald

by isleofman.com 8th January 2019

Tynwald is set to receive a progress report on the ongoing review into how the Island’s health and social care system will be funded in the future.

The 12-month review is being conducted by Sir Jonathan Michael - a clinician and former chief executive of three NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK.

His final report is due to be presented for discussion in May.

Tynwald Members supported the calls for a review in January 2018 in response to the Department of Health and Social Care repeatedly exceeding its annual budget.

Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan says: “The progress report is an important milestone in this review process.

“It highlights the key themes emerging from Sir Jonathan’s review and will focus our thinking as we consider priorities for the future.

“I thank Sir Jonathan and his team for all the hard work which has been undertaken so far and look forward to receiving the final report.”

Health and Social Care Minister David Ashford says: “I’m delighted at the progress which has been made by Sir Jonathan and his team.

“He’s raised a number of important issues which we will expand on once we have the final report.”
