Firefighters spend night tackling boat blaze in Peel

by isleofman.com 24th October 2018

Firefighters have spent the night tackling a fire on a fishing boat in Peel.

They were called to West Quay at 11.30pm.

A fully developed fire was alight within the cabin area of the vessel – firefighters were unable to gain access to contain it.

Crews had to use cooling techniques and water management to contain the fire and prevent the boat from being swamped by firefighting water.

The Coastguard and Department of Infrastructure also attended to deploy pollution booms to contain contamination.

The site will continue to be monitored this morning with the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service dealing with containment and environmental issues.

West Quay in Peel will be subject to a road closure until further notice.
