Work begins on new social housing project for the north

by isleofman.com 4th October 2018

Construction is set to begin on one of the largest social housing projects in the north.

Ramsey and Northern Districts Housing Committee has received approval from the Department of Infrastructure and Isle of Man Treasury to proceed with a ?6 million sheltered housing complex.

It will be called Mayfield and located on Queen’s Pier Road.

In 2016 Ramsey Town Commissioners transferred the site to R&NDHC – the committee will now be progressing the project to build 27 one-bedroom and 10 two-bedroom apartments.

The scheme will complement the redevelopment of the Cooil ny Marrey sheltered housing complex in Waterloo Road.

Similar in design to the existing Kerroo Glass and Cooyrt Balleigh sheltered complexes, Mayfield will include communal facilities, passenger lifts, secure door access and a personal alarm system in each apartment.

Designed to maximise energy efficiency the building will feature low-energy lighting, heat recovery extractor fans and underfloor heating.

R&NDHC chairman Sandra Kerrison said: “We are delighted to have now reached the point when we can begin the process of delivering this much needed additional sheltered housing complex in the heart of Ramsey.

“Ramsey and Northern Districts Housing Committee is committed to providing affordable, high-quality social housing for those in our community who meet the criteria for sheltered housing.

“Mayfield will not only offer tenants independence combined with security but also a supremely convenient town centre location.

“We look forward to advancing this major scheme as swiftly as possible.”
