A-level students on the Isle of Man have secured a record year of achievement.

350 pupils from the Island’s five secondary schools received their results yesterday.

They’d taken 1,000 A-levels in nearly 50 subjects.

The percentage of passes at A*- B was 51.1 per cent – an increase of five per cent on last year.

7.3 per cent of Island pupils achieved the A* grade.

The Island’s overall pass rate of A* - E was 98.4 per cent.

It's expected that around 70 per cent of pupils will take up places at university.

School Improvement Adviser Joel Smith says: "The vast majority of pupils have received positive outcomes and have been able to pursue their chosen pathway or destination in education, employment or training.

"Results reflect the continued strength of the Island’s education system in terms of academic outcomes, broad curriculum offer, and life choices for young people."
