Town Hall is made accessible for all

by isleofman.com 26th July 2018

Douglas Town Hall has been revamped to make it accessible for everyone.

A new entrance has been created on John Street to allow access for people with mobility issues.

The work included a window being removed and a new door being installed.

Council Leader David Christian says: "The Town Hall is very much at the heart of the Douglas community and, as such, must be accessible for all.

"Providing this new additional entrance means that wheelchair users and others with limited mobility are now able to enter and leave the town hall freely and with dignity.

"The project to create the new entrance was not without its logistical challenges, given that the town hall is an historical building on the Registered Buildings list.

"The council was mindful, however, that its priority was to arrive at a practical solution that would support its commitment to a fairer, more inclusive society."
