Ducklings left orphaned after motorist hits mother

by isleofman.com 27th June 2018

Four ducklings have been left orphaned after a motorist hit and killed their mother.

It happened in Douglas yesterday morning - they are now being cared for by the ManxSPCA.

In a post on Facebook the animal welfare charity described it as a ‘very upsetting incident’.

It says the car failed to even attempt to slow down for the animals which were crossing the road.

Members of the public and a staff member from Milan Veterinary Practice managed to catch the ducklings and they were taken to the ManxSPCA Headquarters.

A spokesman for ManxSPCA says: "It is sad that we have to remind public to slow down and stop for wildlife crossing the road.

"We understand sometimes it is unavoidable but in this case it was witnessed as blatant disregard."
