Bonfire blazes spark emergency call out

by isleofman.com 11th June 2018

Out of control bonfires sparked emergency call outs on Friday.

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service responded to a call for help just before 1pm – appliances from Kirk Michael, Peel and Douglas attended a property in Ballaugh.

A bonfire had spread out of control and had spread into a nearby field.

At the same time appliances from Port Erin and Douglas responded to a call from a property in Ronague.

The bonfire there had spread to nearby hedges and properties.

A spokesperson for the service says: "Both of these incidents serve as a reminder to the public that they should use extreme caution during this prolonged spell of dry weather.

"Fortunately, on both of these occasions we were able to intervene before property was lost and further damage caused."
