by isleofman.com 4th June 2018

Michael Dunlop dedicated his first TT win of 2018 to his former racing colleague Dan Kneen.

The Tyco BMW rider gave the team an emotional victory in Saturday's RST Superbike race following the death of Kneen in Wednesday's practice session.

The Ulsterman took the lead on lap four after leader Dean Harrison retired at Sulby Crossroads.

Before his retirement the Silicone Engineering Kawasaki rider shattered the outright lap record from a standing start with a lap of 134.432mph.

Dunlop – who took his 16th win – beat second place Conor Cummins and third place James Hillier.

Speaking afterwards Dunlop said: "I wanted to do something in Dan's memory – that win is for his family.

"It's hard to celebrate this win – it's been a hard week."

Team Manager Philip Neill said: "As Michael has already been mentioned this has been a very emotional week for everyone involved – the loss of Dan is heart-breaking.

"The best thing we could do today was help Michael put the Tyco BMW on the top step of the podium in dedication to Dan."

Neill also revealed Dan’s partner Leanne had delivered Michael's pit board during the last lap of the race which had a tribute to Dan as well as P1.
