Racing team 'devastated' following death of Manx rider

TAS Racing and Tyco BMW say they are ‘devastated’ after the death of local TT rider Dan Kneen.

The 30-year-old died at the scene of a crash during the first lap of the practice session last night.

In a statement Team Manager Philip Neill said: "We are all numb at the minute if I’m truly honest.

"Dan had settled in superbly well here at Tyco BMW, as his previous results have shown, and having set his best-ever lap time around the TT Circuit just last night (Tuesday), he proved his credentials as a potential winner this year.

"Our thoughts though, are not about racing, but with Dan’s family and friends.

"He was a popular hard-working lad who loved his racing and he will be sorely missed by all that knew him, and that includes everyone at TAS Racing."

The team says 2018 was due to be the Manxman's year after 10 years racing at the TT – on Tuesday night he recorded his personal best ever lap recording a speed of 132.258mph on his Superbike.
