Volunteers needed to help make parole decisions

by isleofman.com 22nd May 2018

Volunteers are being urged to consider playing a role in the Isle of Man's criminal justice system.

Positions are available on the Parole Committee – an independent body responsible for making recommendations on the release and recall of prisoners.

Home Affairs Minister Bill Malarkey says: "The Parole Committee performs an important role in the life of the Island and its justice system, holding great responsibility in assessing whether individuals are suitable to be released into the community and the conditions of that release.

"No formal qualifications are needed in applying – the core attributes required are common sense, good judgement and a commitment to the strong values held dear in our community."

Parole Committee Chair Clare Faulds says: "The committee welcomes people from all walks of life and with good life experience to apply for the vacant positions.

"The work is challenging, of course, but it is also extremely rewarding and supports a system that makes a real difference not only to the people directly affected but also their families and wider society."
