Numbers were low on Sunday due to bad weather and the proximity of Christmas but a small, dedicated band did turn up to endure the arctic conditions in the Onchan Sports Hub. The round of the day was a Worcester shot as part of the Club’s Scratch League. The Worcester consists of 60 arrows, shot on a black and white target face, scoring 5 down to 1 with a maximum of 300 points available.
The cold weather had forced Eric Lutes into long trousers for the first time this year but it did not put him off his shooting as he added 4 points to his pb for the round. Eric had to settle for second place however, as Danny Cowin shot the middle out of his target in a classy display that produced the highest Recurve score of the day.
In the Ladies Recurve Barbara Harris began to show a return to form in spite of suffering the after effects of a heavy cold. Harris carried on in the afternoon session to record a pb for the Double Worcester that was just 3 points short of the club record. Barbara was joined on her boss in the morning session by Junior Club member James Hill who put in an excellent round that was just 2 points short of his pb.
In the Gents Compound it was a straight shoot-out between Dave Moore and Pete Mumford. Dave Moore dropped just 3 points over the morning but Pete Mumford led from start to finish, dropping just 2 points on his way to victory.
Lone Lady Compound Joy Gough put in a solid round that was marred by an unusual miss in the last fifteen arrows.
In the afternoon session Juniors Toby Young, Jacob Brookes and Nathan Kinrade displayed their skills. Nathan added 24 points to his pb for the round but had to settle for fourth place behind James Hill. Jacob Brookes added 19 points to his personal best for the round to take second place, while Toby Young celebrated his birthday by taking victory by a considerable margin.
