Make your own Willow Basket with Master Weaver John ‘Dog’ Callister at Milntown

by isleofman.com 10th November 2017

Come along and have a go at the ancient craft of Willow basket making on Saturday 18th November.

Join us for a day at Milntown where you will create your very own willow basket under the expert tutorship of Master Weaver John ‘Dog’ Callister and Kevin Quayle.

You will also have an opportunity to wander around the beautiful gardens over the break and at the end of the class.

You can view some of ‘Dog’s’ work on the Estate if you take a trip to the Mill Pond – you will be greeted by our five delightful willow dragonflies. Each of these carefully crafted insects took almost two days to complete. With a 3-foot wingspan they are the size of Pterodactyls and have been carefully positioned so they appear to be flying just above the surface of the mill pond.

You will be provided with all the information, the materials and any tools needed. A sharp pair of secateurs though would be useful if you have them.

You will go home with a willow basket you will be proud of and memories of a wonderful outing to Milntown.
