IOM Premiere of new film on Offshore Finance industry

by isleofman.com 9th November 2017

The Positive Action Group (PAG) is screening a new documentary telling how Britain transformed itself from an imperial to a global financial power through a global network of offshore jurisdictions.

'The Spider's Web – Britain's Second Empire' will be shown at the Manx Museum Theatre on Monday 13 November, with screenings at both 6.00pm and 7.45pm.
Admission is free - All welcome

This recently-released documentary film throws light on how bankers, lawyers and accountants set up a web of offshore secrecy jurisdictions which captured wealth from across the globe and funnelled it into the City of London.  Today, up to half of global offshore wealth may be hidden in British offshore jurisdictions and Britain and its offshore jurisdictions are the largest global players in the world of international finance.

How did this come about, and what impact does it have on the world today? This is what the Spider’s Web sets out to investigate.
It argues that real power lies not in our democratic institutions but rather in the hands of the wealthy and influential few.

Roger Tomlinson of PAG commented: “PAG is pleased to give an Isle of Man premiere for this timely film. It will clearly be controversial here but we feel the issues it airs are relevant to the Island and deserving of debate.

We wish to welcome the public at both screenings. The early screening offers a chance to come straight from work. Just turn up.”
