‘TV corporal’ to attend youth conference

by isleofman.com 30th October 2017

The Isle of Man Youth Service’s annual conference will hear from an Army corporal who has forged a successful TV career.

Richard Nauyokas has served in the Army for 23 years, most of them as an instructor.

He became famous for his role as a firm but fair disciplinarian in ITV’s Lads Army and follow-up Bad Lads’ Army.

He then took over two challenging youth clubs in Grantham and now runs Not All Bad, offering motivational training and team-building.

Nigel Howard, Principal Youth Officer with the Department of Education and Children’s Youth Service, worked with Richard in the UK and has secured his services free.

The Youth Service runs play and youth clubs and projects such as Soundcheck, Cafe Laare and the Youth Motor Project. It operates the Youth Arts Centre, Ardwhallan outdoor education centre and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

More than 100 full and part-time youth workers will attend the conference at Henry Bloom Noble Primary School on Tuesday 7th November.

Nigel said: ‘The Youth Service provides activities, skills and a listening ear to thousands of young people, with 65 clubs and projects run over 100 sessions a week.

‘The conference is youth workers’ chance to get together, reflect on the challenges and successes of the past year and plan for the year ahead.

‘Richard will provide a fresh and fun viewpoint on how we can motivate ourselves to deliver the best services to our young people.’
