Gough Law gives Ellan Vannin Gymnastics Club a helping hand

by isleofman.com 27th October 2017

Gough Law has presented Ellan Vannin Gymnastics Club with a new vault horse to replace one lost during the devastating flooding of December 2015 .

The flooding wreaked havoc around the Island, and caused extensive damage to the gym and surrounding area, leaving the club with very little equipment.

Although impressive fundraising efforts raised enough to purchase new mats and equipment, the horse was yet to be replaced – until Gough Law stepped in to help.

Gough Law’s HelenMarie Gough, a gymnast in her youth, heard about the club’s plight from her friend, Lynne Spence, whose daughter, Ciara, attends the club in Pulrose Road, Douglas.

HelenMarie said, ‘The damage caused by the flooding was heartbreaking to see and we wanted to do what we could to help. The club has a real family ethos, and gives so many young people the opportunity to train.

‘I have a real passion for gymnastics, and when my girls were two and three years old, I trained as a coach in the hope that they would take up gymnastics – sadly, they didn’t share my passion! But we have another link to the club, in that Andrew Marshall and Chiva Arthurs, directors at Gough Law, have children who attend the club’s tots gym.’

To mark the donation, the club has placed a plaque on the vault horse commemorating the support from Gough Law, and the company’s logo has been included on the club’s stationery, and a banner placed in the gym.
