The Isle of Man’s annual PwC ‘Question of Sport’ dinner has benefitted two local charities to the tune of ?1,605 each.
The black-tie corporate event at the Palace Hotel & Casino is organised by the Sporting & Dining Club and has been sponsored since its inception in 2012 by PwC Isle of Man.
This year’s champions were Standard Bank, toppling last year’s winners SMP Partners to take home the first prize of the Silver Claret Jug and champagne.
The night raised ?3,210 for charity – the highest total in the event’s six-year history. The worthy causes sharing this year’s funds are The Friends of Robert Owen House and Project 21.
Nick Halsall, Partner at PwC Isle of Man, said: ‘It was another excellent night’s entertainment, with Standard Bank running out worthy winners. John Wannenburgh and the Sporting & Dining Club have created a superb addition to the Manx calendar, which is always a sell-out and our thanks go to all the teams who joined in the fun and helped raise money for these two charities.’
Sporting & Dining Club’s John Wannenburgh said: ‘Once again Isle of Man companies and organisations came together to support the event and ensure another full house, which is fantastic to see. Our congratulations to the Standard Bank team, and to everyone who helped make it such great night.’
The Friends of Robert Owen House is an Isle of Man charity which raises funds for Robert Owen House, a bed and breakfast facility in the grounds of the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, which is part of Broadgreen Hospital. The house allows relatives and carers of patients in the Heart and Chest Hospital to stay overnight (or longer) in secure and friendly accommodation, close to their loved ones.
Project 21 was established in 2000 and saw five Manx charities – Manx Mencap, Down’s Syndrome Isle of Man, Autism in Mann, Manx Gateway and Special Olympics Isle of Man – work together to build a centre for people with learning difficulties.
The date for the 2018 Question of Sport has been fixed for Thursday, September 20 – and several tables have already been booked. To guarantee your table, contact John Wannenburgh on 07624 495749 or via www.sportinganddiningclub.com.
