Isle of Man Airport staff have seen the importance of regular hearing checks following free hearing tests from Hidden Hearing.
Expert Audiologist Sophie Oakley and Hearing Care Assistant Suzanne Tucker visited the airport as part of Hidden Hearing’s wellness campaign, carrying out tests and reminding airport staff not to delay getting regular hearing checks.
As Sophie and Suzanne were based in one of the staff areas it meant that airport employees, security agents and airline staff could benefit from a free hearing test during their break.
It is important for everyone to have regular hearing checks, and especially those who work in noisy environments such as an airport.
During its wellness campaign Hidden Hearing has already visited Santander International, the Constabularly and Crossroads Care among other workplaces.
Sophie said: ‘Working shifts, as many at the airport do, makes it harder to arrange appointments so we made it really convenient for them by bringing the test to their work. Each assessment took less than 10 minutes, with full hearing tests offered to those who needed further investigation.’
Isle of Man Airport Safety Management Officer, Voirrey Mairs, added: ‘An airport is a noisy environment to work in, which is why we enforce strict hearing protection regulations and make sure all apron staff are issued with ear defenders as part of our measures to look after the welfare of all employees.
‘Having your hearing checked regularly is clearly very important, but people don’t always have the time or remember to book a check-up. That is why we were pleased to welcome the team from Hidden Hearing to the airport, offering free on-site hearing checks to anyone who wanted one.’
More than 15 people were propelled into action to have a hearing assessment, with free follow ups, annual check-ups and complementary microsuction being offered as needed.
Hidden Hearing’s message was ‘plane’ and simple – ensure your hearing is the best it can be through regular, free hearing tests, adequate hearing protection and hearing aids when needed.
The hearing specialist’s wellness campaign aims to promote all aspects of wellness with an emphasis on getting the most out of your hearing, both now and in the future.
Hidden Hearing operates from clinics in Douglas, Ramsey and Castletown, with Island residents benefitting from the convenience, knowledge and welcome provided by a local business, and the expertise and experience of a large company with multiple branches around the UK.
