ManSat Group to stage sixth annual Space & Satellite Law Colloquium in Washington DC

by isleofman.com 17th October 2017

The ManSat Group is gearing up for its sixth annual Space & Satellite Law Colloquium in Washington DC, which takes place October 18 & 19.

Founded by ManSat, the colloquium is being staged in partnership with Reed Smith, one of the world’s largest law firms, and other supporting organisations including the International Institute of Space Commerce and Geeks Without Frontiers.

Each year the event attracts speakers from the world’s major satellite operators, manufacturers, launch providers and law firms.

ManSat carries out satellite filings for the Isle of Man under a contract with the Isle of Man Government's Communications Commission.

Attendance at the colloquium is free for Isle of Man businesses.

Chris Stott, CEO and Chairman of the ManSat Group, explained: ‘For the first time, the colloquium has been expanded to cover two days, which is testament to the quality of the line-up of speakers and the ever-increasing interest in this area.

‘It’s the only event in the world which brings together those involved in satellite law and regulation, focusing on and encouraging dialogue about the most important issues at the cutting edge of the industry.’

Chris will be chairing panel discussions on each day, including one about the Lunar Economic Action Plan, which is in effect a business plan for establishing a private settlement on the moon.

Del Smith, Senior Space Business Counsel at Reed Smith, said: ‘Together with Chris and Mansat we have created a colloquium, a place for the exchange of ideas where there is a unique opportunity to engage in conversations and debates between commercial space participants, with enough time to explore the key regulatory issues of the industry.

‘We have the time to evaluate various future visions, and decide which ones we think will succeed, and we have the freedom to objectively evaluate various regulatory options with a clear, objective lens, and that can be critically important to the future of the commercial space industry.’

The colloquium marks the culmination of a busy period for ManSat, with company representatives attending and speaking at summits and conferences around the globe.

These included the World Satellite Business Week in Paris last month, the Satellite Innovation Summit in California at the start of October and last week’s Asia Pacific Satellite Communications Council in Tokyo, which saw ManSat supporting educational workshops.
