As part of the Yn Chruinnaght/Cooish Manx Gaelic mini-festival (20th/21st October), there will be a workshop to assist local singer-songwriters, musicians and Manx speakers compose a new song to enter in the annual Arrane son Mannin - a Song for Mannin competition, which will be held in early January 2018.
This practical workshop will give advice on composing the music and lyrics, help with translation and pronunciation, and offer tips on performance. The new song can be written in any style or genre, and the winning act of the Arrane son Mannin will receive ?300 (sponsored by Culture Vannin) and a trip to Letterkenny in Ireland to represent the Island at the Pan-Celtic International Song Contest in April 2018.
Recent winning songs at the Arrane son Mannin have included a folk ballad from Shenn Scoill (who also scooped the first prize at the Pan-Celtic festival in 2014!), a gypsy punk song from Glashtin, and most recently, a catchy pop song from Biskee Brisht.
The workshop will take place on Saturday 21st October from 2-4pm in Culture Vannin, Main Road, St Johns. It is free to attend, but please pre-book your place on the workshop: info@ynchruinnaght.com.
Yn Chruinnaght/Cooish festival also includes a Manx Gaelic concert and ‘Giense’ party at Peel Masonic Hall at 8pm on Friday 20th October (tickets ?5 must be bought in advance), plus a 'Manx for mums and dads session' on Saturday 21st October.
