Education leaders from Jersey and Guernsey visited the Island last week as the three Crown Dependencies continue to share innovative ideas and best practice.

Deputy Rod Bryans, Jersey’s Minister for Education, was accompanied on the visit by Justin Donovan, Chief Education Officer.

Deputy Paul Le Pelley, President of Guernsey’s Committee for Education, Sport and Culture, was accompanied by Frank Flynn, Director of Operations for Education.

On Thursday they met Graham Cregeen MHK, Minister for Education and Children, Department Members and Chief Executive Officer Professor Ronald Barr.

Among items on the agenda were post-16 and A level provision, higher education, UK university fees, student loan schemes, lifelong learning, school buildings and the benefits of school co-location.

The dignitaries visited primary and secondary schools, the Jersey Minister and CEO also spending time at the Pre-School Assessment Centre.

Formal meetings between education leaders of the three islands began in 2015 and it’s the second time the Island’s Education Minister has hosted his Jersey and Guernsey counterparts.

Minister Cregeen said: ‘Like the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey have forward-thinking, innovative education systems.

‘We share many ambitions and have common challenges, too.

‘It is beneficial for us to discuss issues and learn from each other over developments and best practice.’
