Albany Tennis News

by isleofman.com 28th September 2017

Albany/Auxesia Ltd Junior Club Championships update; The awful weather is making it difficult to complete the matches. However the U8s played a round robin last Saturday with several players competing for the first time. After some close matches the winner was Henry Leigh, r/up Noah Chambers and 3rd Magnus Benson. With all the players showing they are making progress in learning how to play. Some of them are only 5yrs old but we must remember Raphael Nadal started when he was 4yrs so anything is possible! We still have U12 and U18 singles, plus 12s and 18s doubles to complete but we do need good weather. The indoor court isn't always available as members are booking it. (I'm sending photo)

We now have a definite date - Sunday 29 October starting at 2pm - for playing The Todmorden Shield which is an annual triangular match between Albany, Castletown and Ramsey which we will be hosting. I need some volunteers to help provide the tea. Let me know if you can help and what you could provide. Supporters will also be made very welcome.

Albany/ Chrystals Senior Open - Usual reminder when a tournament is starting - please get your entries in early. Entries close on Tuesday 3 October at 7pm. E-mail ianwatsonpts@manx.net or there are plenty of forms in the clubhouse, so just pop it in the post box. This event is OPEN to players from all Manx clubs or even visitors from UK plus we certainly want to see Island Juniors entered. Events are Men's/Women's singles and doubles plus mixed doubles. Good cash prizes to be won with the overall winner receiving ?60 plus engraved medal. Any queries contact Ian Watson 496293 or me 861497.

The Friday Ladies continue to have a successful, social get togethers each Friday from 10am to 12noon approx.  This has proved to be a blessing for new residents  - maybe moving due to their husband's employment. If interested contact Jan Gaskill on 862144 for details.
