As a follow-up to the Report of the Economic Policy Review Committee in 2013, the Environment and Infrastructure Policy Review Committee has decided to inquire into what progress has been made with implementing recommendations to:\
• prepare a contingency plan to maintain a licensing regime, whether a light touch regime or otherwise, against the day when commercial realities demand this;
• consider amending the charging system at Ronaldsway to allow “Open Skies” and competition to continue, but to safeguard the position of particular routes and flight timings;
• investigate the possibility of establishing a franchise-based airline which could be operated by companies for the Island’s Government using leased aircraft and which would allow the Island’s Government to buy landing slots;
• the work of the Department of Infrastructure and Department of Economic Development to ensure proper coordination between tourism development and the administration of air routes;
• and any related matters.
The Committee would like to invite written evidence from anyone who would like to comment on these matters. Submissions should be sent by 5pm on Friday 20th October 2017 to the address below. Email is preferred but hard copy is equally acceptable. Please note that Committees may publish evidence.
The Committee was established by Tynwald in October 2016. The Members elected to the Committee are Mr Rob Callister MHK (Chair), Miss Clare Bettison MHK, and Mr Chris Robertshaw MHK.
