Andy Jackson wins Isle of Man 12hr Cycle Challenge

by isleofman.com 25th September 2017

Andy Jackson, the current UMCA (Ultra Marathon Cycle Association) 6hr World Champion, completed the Isle of Man 12hr Challenge on Saturday with a record mileage of 240.26 miles.

The Isle of Man Cycle Challenge is held on the TT Mountain Course but dense fog and rain throughout the day forced the organisers to use the Laxey coastal road instead. As well as the 12hr challenge there was also a cycle sportive with 74 riders taking part.

Andy, a 42-year old Executive Director at Evo2Max Bikes, said of the day “I have done three 12hr races this year and that was by far the hardest! The TT circuit is a classic with some really challenging roads and steep climbs but inclement weather made it a very hard day. It’s a great event though, well organised and a great way to see the TT course – if it’s not windy, wet and misty!

Riders on the sportive also battled the weather and were welcomed back to the Grandstand with hot drinks, medals and sports massage from PSM Sports Injury and Rehabilitation Clinic. Many were riding to raise funds for charity, including hand cyclist Mark Howard, a disabled army veteran from Norfolk, who finished in 4hrs 22mins.

The Isle of Man Cycle Challenge (www.isleofmancc.com) will be returning in 2018 for its sixth consecutive year. It is organised and run by Greenrock Ltd, an independent company which specialises in challenge events and adventure tours.
