Young detectives receive prizes in Old Mutual International sponsored reading challenge

by isleofman.com 22nd September 2017
Children at The Harvey Briggs Onchan Library won prizes for completing a reading challenge during the summer holidays. The library supported the UK national Summer Reading Challenge produced by The Reading Agency, aided by sponsorship from Old Mutual International which was sponsoring the challenge for the 12th year. The theme this summer was ‘Animal Agents’, characters brought to life by Tony Ross who illustrates books for best-selling author David Walliams, and the Horrid Henry series. The event featured a detective agency staffed by all kinds of clever animals who need eagle-eyed children to help them by reading books and finding clues to solve mysteries. Children received an Animal Agents folder, and as they read their library books they collected stickers to help them crack the case. Thanks to the generous support from Old Mutual International, they also collected goodies along the way such as Animal Agents key rings, book bags and a medal for completing the challenge. All of the children who completed the challenge had their names entered into a prize draw, and there were also prizes of books and toys for a variety of fun competitions. The winners and runners-up received their prizes at a presentation at the library on the 7th of September.
