An Evening with Andy McNab, bestselling author and ex-22 SAS

by isleofman.com 22nd September 2017

Bestselling author and ex-22 SAS Andy McNab will talk about his life and career at a black-tie dinner at Palace Hotel & Casino next month.

Organised by Prestige Artist Events, An Evening with Andy McNab (DCM, MM, CBE) takes place on Friday, October 27.

Andy served with the Royal Green Jackets from 1976-1984, and then the SAS until 1993. As a member of 22 SAS, Andy was at the centre of covert operations across five continents. He commanded Bravo Two Zero during the Gulf War, an eight-man SAS patrol tasked with destroying underground communication links between Baghdad and north-west Iraq and tracking Scud missile movements in the region. The mission was compromised, and the patrol tried to escape on foot towards Syria. Three were killed, and four captured, including Andy. When he left the SAS two years later, Andy was one of the British Army’s most highly decorated serving soldiers.

He wrote his account of the mission in Bravo Two Zero and now has more than 40 books to his name, including 19 novels in the Nick Stone series and several series for young adults. Earlier this year he was awarded the CBE for services to literacy and charity, recognising the work he has done with The Reading Agency promoting literacy, particularly in young adults and prisoners.

Outside of his work as a novelist and his charitable roles, Andy lectures to security and intelligence agencies in the US and UK, and works in the movie industry, advising Hollywood on everything from covert procedure to training actors to act like soldiers. One of the acclaimed films he has worked on was Heat, Michael Mann's crime epic which starred Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Val Kilmer, and for which Andy served as technical weapons trainer and adviser.

Gavin Speirs, Managing Director of Prestige Artist Events, said: ‘Andy’s life story is at once both harrowing and inspiring, and we are thrilled that he has agreed to visit the Island. Andy will be sharing his extensive life experiences, including recent expeditions to the North and South Poles, and about overcoming the greatest of odds to survive – touching upon motivation, inspiration, and endurance. It really is an evening not to be missed.’

The night includes a 3-course meal and tea and coffee, and each guest will receive a free copy of Andy’s new novel, Line of Fire, the latest Nick Stone adventure. There will also be a luxury prize draw.

Tickets are ?79 + VAT per person, and individual, group or corporate bookings are welcome – please email bookings@prestigeartistevents.com

Part of the proceeds from this event will be donated to Help for Heroes and Hospice Isle of Man.

Please note – because of Andy’s involvement in historic military operations, photography and videography are not permitted at this event.

This is the second guest speaker Prestige Artist Events has brought to the Island, following Chris Lubbe, former aide to Nelson Mandela, who entertained an audience at the Palace Hotel & Casino in April this year.
