Beach Buddies continues to break more records and has reached another landmark figure at the weekend when the 8,000th volunteer was recorded at their event at Langness on Sunday morning.
In perfect weather conditions, the event also had the biggest turn-out of the year for a Sunday morning volunteer session with more than 65 taking part, including 15 new volunteers.
Beach Buddies’ founder Bill Dale said, “Thanks to everyone for making such a fantastic difference - we had a look around afterwards and couldn't find a single piece of rubbish anywhere on Langness.
“It was absolutely brilliant. We lost count of the numbers of volunteers after 50, when a surge of around 15 turned up at the same time, and then loads more arrived, so it was at least 65 and probably nearer 75 plus! Amazing."
Sunday’s event added to another 145 new volunteers the previous day with members of the Living Hope Church joining special events on Saturday - in Peel, Douglas and Ramsey. The weekend’s events take Beach Buddies past the figure of 8,000 different active volunteers since 2014.
Bill Dale added, "Thank you to every single person involved, and also to the many, many hundreds who just walk the beaches every day and collect rubbish in their own time. We have a fantastic community spirit, and it's a privilege to be part of such a great team effort which is putting the Isle of Man on the world map."
