Workplace Wellbeing Workshop to promote healthy workforce

by isleofman.com 13th September 2017

A Workplace Wellbeing Workshop aimed at improving the health of the Island’s workforce is being staged later this year.

The event, titled ‘Working your way to better health: A further insight into improving Workplace Wellbeing’, is organised by the Workplace Wellbeing Group, a public-private partnership led by the Department of Health and Social Care’s Public Health Directorate and the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce.

The group seeks to promote a key objective of the Programme for Government’s Healthy and Safe Island theme – focusing on the prevention of issues through encouraging people to take greater responsibility for their own health and make good lifestyle choices.

Michelle Poyzer, Senior Health Improvement Officer, said: ‘A large part of our day is spent at work so it’s vital that we explore ways to take care of ourselves and our staff.

‘This workshop is designed to offer solutions and suggestions about how to think creatively about the workplace as a setting to support the wellbeing of all staff, including mental and physical health.’

The event will take place at the Sefton Hotel in Douglas on Wednesday 22 November and will provide those attending with an update on tools and techniques as well as advice on how to set up wellbeing initiatives in their own workplaces.

Speakers from on and off-Island will address the event and topics this year will include:

• Health profile of the working-age population in the Isle of Man
• Personal resilience and stress management
• Health, age and the workforce
• An update on the Equality Act
• Wellbeing and the manual worker
• Winners of the Awards for Excellence ‘Workplace Wellbeing’ category

Heidi Dalgleish, from the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce’s Employment and Training Committee, said: ‘If an organisation creates a culture that prioritises the health and wellbeing of its workforce, people will feel supported, happier and more engaged within the workplace.

‘As a result the organisation should benefit from lower absence rates and staff turnover as well as higher productivity levels and many other benefits.’

Local businesses are being invited to exhibit their services and offer advice or support to delegates on implementing workplace wellbeing initiatives. Call 642668 to discuss availability.

Delegates will be able to book a place online from Wednesday 20 September. Prices start at ?50, with concessions available.
