Unique free workshop for endurance coaches

by isleofman.com 12th September 2017

The physiology of endurance athletes is the subject of a unique interactive workshop being held next month in the Isle of Man.

Dr Andi Drake – who works with England Athletics and British Athletics and has coached Olympians and emerging stars – will deliver Isle of Man Sport’s annual sports science workshop on Friday 12th October, 6.30pm.

Andi will demonstrate techniques used to test oxygen levels during intense exercise.

He will be supported by Lucy Ricciardi, from High Performance Analysis Ltd, a newly established Island business offering sports physiology testing.

It will supply the technology required to undertake these tests, which are normally only conducted in laboratories and performance centres such as the English Institute of Sport.

Trevor Christian, Sports Coaching Co-ordinator with Isle of Man Sport, said: ‘Andi will help coaches to understand some fundamental principles of exercise physiology and how to apply information from tests to better inform coaching.

‘The workshop, at the Sport Institute at the National Sports Centre, is free of charge and aimed at coaches who work with endurance athletes.’

To book a place on the workshop, email trevor.christian@gov.im or ring 01624 688590.
