The Isle of Man Society of Architects (SofA) is pleased to announce that the Sayle Gallery in Douglas will host their first exhibition of members’ work this month.
This event builds on the legacy of the Isle of Architecture Festival, which celebrated the Island’s diverse built environment and ended in July this year. The exhibition features the work of 15 local architects with 35 projects ranging from domestic extensions to infrastructure projects and, whilst generally modest in scale, they provide an insight into the broad range of skills and experience available through the Island’s professionals.
Martyn Thomas, Chair of SofA said: “We thought that this would be a great way to follow up the busy year of ‘Isle of Architecture’ events. We are delighted that the Sayle Gallery have offered to host the exhibition for us and for the support offered by the Isle of Man Arts Council and by Quine and Cubbon Printers who have printed the exhibition boards. We are really pleased with the variety and standard of work and believe this to be a useful contribution to our ambition to promote the importance of good architecture and design on the Island, continuing the momentum built up by the ‘Isle of Architecture’ year.”
Carola Rush, of the Sayle Gallery, said: “At the Sayle we are keen to explore the boundaries between the visual arts and other forms of art and design. We are therefore very pleased to host this exhibition by the Island’s leading Architects and we hope that through this gallery exhibition, visitors may be given a greater awareness of the aesthetic and practical challenges behind the design of our built environment.”
The exhibition is being supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council and will be on display during the gallery’s normal opening hours from 9th September to 8th October; there will be a launch event on the evening of 8th September.
The Isle of Man Society of Architects was formed in 2013 to promote Architecture in the Isle of Man and has held workshops, exhibitions, installations and concerts alongside CPD + social events to support local architects’ professional development.
