The Basement, a fun new bar with a sporting theme, has been officially opened in Wellington Street, Douglas.
Invited guests attended a launch party at the venue which is situated underneath sister restaurant Just Pizza and Pasta. Guests were able to try their hand at the bar’s multi-games simulator which features a choice of over 200 golf courses, 60 different driving race tracks and a number of shooting galleries. The bar’s pool and foosball tables were also popular and the lively party atmosphere was enhanced with live jazz music provided by saxophonist Ariel Amoedo Duran.
As well as the games, The Basement has a large bar area that includes a number of booths, each with its own TV screen, offering small groups the opportunity to view their favourite live sporting action.
Serving a range of artisan gins as well as beers, spirits, wine and champagne, The Basement also has an extensive cocktail menu which includes well-known classics and some more unusual mixes such as the Brazilian Caipirinha and Espresso Martini.
The Basement proprietor Mitch Sorbie said: “I’ve always felt there was room for a bar that offers more than just drinks and big screens, somewhere that gets people involved and active. It was fantastic to see the great response to the games simulator and people enjoying the challenge of a round of golf at Augusta, St Andrews and Turnberry or racing around some of the world’s greatest race tracks.
“We are planning to introduce jazz afternoons/evenings and Sunday brunch in the near future which will give entertainment at The Basement another twist. We will also be running special event nights around key sporting matches, our first being the Mayweather vs McGregor fight on 26th August.
The Basement is open from 5.00pm to late Monday to Friday, and from 12 noon on Saturday and Sunday. Food can be ordered from the upstairs restaurant until 10pm. The venue is also available for corporate hire and celebrations.
