Equality Champion appointed

by isleofman.com 29th August 2017

The Cabinet Office has appointed Jane Poole-Wilson MLC to the new role of Equality Champion to support the implementation of the Equality Act.

Announcing the appointment, Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas MHK explained: ‘The Equality Act, which received Royal Assent in July, is a major piece of social legislation with different implications for various people and organisations.

‘Consequently its implementation will be phased and prepared. I am pleased that we now have a dedicated Equality Champion to focus on this task and in Jane Poole-Wilson we have someone who is well suited to the role.’

Mrs Poole-Wilson commented: ‘I am delighted to be appointed Equality Champion and I am passionate about supporting the successful implementation of our equality legislation.

‘I am looking forward to beginning work, and to the publication of and consultation on a draft implementation timetable during the autumn. I am also very keen to help raise awareness of the Act and its implications, and will be looking to meet with a range of individuals and organisations across the public and private sectors.’
