The Queen’s Baton Relay arrives on the Island next week with an exciting schedule of community events lined up to celebrate Team Isle of Man.
On Friday, 1st September, Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association President Basil Bielich accompanied by the Chief Minister Howard Quayle and CGA officials will officially welcome the Baton onto the Island.
The Isle of Man is the 43rd destination as the Baton travels from Buckingham Palace to Australia for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Mr Bielich said: ‘I encourage everyone to turn out, see the Baton, join in the festivities and cheer on the batonbearers. As well as visiting as many Island landmarks as we can the Relay will involve past and present Manx athletes.’
The community events begin at 9am on Saturday 2nd September at the NSC.

Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney added: ‘Being part of the Queen’s Baton Relay for the Commonwealth Games 2018 gives us a chance to showcase our Island to the rest of the Commonwealth.’
In addition to the community schedule the Baton will visit the Association’s Team Champions, Auxesia, Escape the Rock, Manx Telecom, Paysafe, Skanco and SMP Partners, as well as Government House and Tynwald Hill. Mylchreest Motors and Isle of Man Trike Tours will be the official transport for the Baton as it makes it way around the Island. The Isle of Man Post Office is contributing to the event with transportation and administrative support. The Queen’s Baton will be visiting the Sorting Office on Friday, 1st September.
The Baton is currently travelling through Scotland and Northern Ireland, on what is being named as the most engaging Relay in history.
The international sector for the Queen’s Baton Relay is a joint initiative of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation in partnership with the Commonwealth Games Federation and locally with the Commonwealth Games Association of the Isle of Man.
