Youngsters attend Peel Golf Club Open Competition sponsored by Dandara

by isleofman.com 23rd August 2017

More than 40 young golfers contested Peel Golf Club’s Open Competition, sponsored by award-winning homebuilder Dandara.

The contest, which was open to junior golfers from clubs across the Island, was organised on a ‘medal’ format, with prizes for the youngest players, from the age of just five, through to the more experienced junior golfers.

The competition attracted 42 young players from clubs around the Isle of Man and Junior Organiser Tracy Saunders said it had been a great success.

She said: ‘The players faced changeable conditions, including rain showers, sunshine and a cool breeze as the evening went on, but we witnessed some excellent golf. It was wonderful to welcome junior players from other clubs to Peel and to see how much up and coming talent there is in this Island. We hope they all enjoyed the experience and look forward to welcoming them back to Peel soon.

‘I’d like to thank our sponsor Dandara for its ongoing support, which ensures we are able to present prizes in every category.’

The results were:

• Flag competition (13 players) - 1st Rory Moffatt getting to the 10th fairway, 2nd Luke Begley reaching the 8th fairway, 3rd Poppy Bregazzi reaching the 7th
• Bronze Category (6 players) - 1st Finnley Richards with 19 points, 2nd Liam Hunt with 17 points
• Upper Bronze Category (9 players) - 1st Shannon Saunders with 15 points, 2nd Lorcan Keating with 12 points, 3rd Hollie Biggane with 10 points
• Silver Category (5 players) - 1st Connor Cain with 31 points, 2nd Owen Dooley with 26 points
• Gold/Platinum Categories Medal (9 players) - 1st, and winner of the Dandara Shield, Scott Moffatt with a net score of 73, 2nd Lea Dawson with 74 net, 3rd on count back Joe Saunders with 75 net

This sponsorship is only part of Dandara’s commitment to supporting sport in the Isle of Man. It has been actively involved in football, cycling, volleyball, bowling, rugby and other sports for many years, and in 2017 is continuing its title sponsorship of Isle of Man Golf’s Junior Order of Merit and Junior Championships.
