‘Snakes’ and other creatures have been sneaking into the Henry Bloom Noble Library as part of a children’s activity workshop, attended by the Mayor of Douglas Debbie Pitts and the mayoress, Linda Curphey, in support of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, Animal Agents.
Animal Agents is based on a detective agency staffed by a team of animals – furry, scaly and slippery – out to crack a case at the library.
The Summer Reading Challenge asks four to 11-year-olds to borrow and read any six library books during the summer holidays, a time when children’s literacy skills traditionally dip. Children who register for the challenge are given a folder in which to keep a record of their reading journey and collect stickers which help them to crack the clues.
Artwork for this year’s challenge is by best-selling children’s illustrator Tony Ross, creator of the Little Princess books, illustrator of the Horrid Henry series by Francesca Simon, and of books by David Walliams and Claire Balding.
