Ceilidh in the Park to celebrate start of Vision Awareness Week

by isleofman.com 22nd August 2017
Manx Blind Welfare Society will host a Ceilidh in the Park to celebrate the return of Vision Awareness Week for 2017.

Featuring music from the popular Tarroo Marroo Ceili Band, the event will be held in Onchan Park Marquee from 7.30pm on Friday 8th September.

Tickets cost ?15, which includes a chilli supper. There will also be a raffle and a licensed bar will be available.

The Ceilidh in the Park has been organised by the Society in association with Onchan District Commissioners. All profits will go towards supporting the Society’s essential work, which includes providing a range of vital free services to people with total and partial sight loss.

Society Volunteers Coordinator and Events Organiser Debbie Thomson said: ‘We’re all looking forward to the fourth annual Vision Awareness Week, with events running from 11th to 17th September, and the Ceilidh in the Park will be a wonderful way to kick things off.

‘During Vision Awareness Week we will be highlighting eye health, particularly the dangers of smoking, and raising awareness of the issues faced by the hundreds of visually impaired people living in the Isle of Man, but the ceilidh is all about having fun.

‘It’s open to all and we hope to see lots of people, whether they’ve had contact with the Society or not, come along to enjoy the night.
‘On behalf of Manx Blind Welfare Society I’d like to thank Onchan Commissioners for this opportunity and their ongoing support.’

Manx Blind Welfare Society provides vital services for more than 600 people with serious sight loss on the Isle of Man and during Vision Awareness Week the charity will also be publicising the work they do alongside other charities, societies and agencies with blind and visually impaired people.

Tickets for Ceilidh in the Park are available now by calling 674727. Find out more about the work of Manx Blind Welfare Society at www.mbws.org.im.
