Albany Juniors successful in Island Championships

Congratulations to all our juniors who played and won trophies in last week's IOMLTA Junior Closed Championships. Almost a clean sweep and thank you to all who entered - it is vital for the improvement of Island tennis that juniors  (and seniors) enter competitions. Not only to gain experience but also build the County teams of the future. At the conclusion of play the prizes were presented by Brian Walton, Chairman of the IOMLTA and Ron Sibthorpe, Chairman of Douglas LTC where the event was held. Referee Paul Jarvis was thanked for running the event.

Results (ALB for club members)  - Girls U8 - winner Sophie Christian (ALB) r/up Abigail Cowell (ALB) ; U8 Boys winner Sam Atcheson, r/up Henry Leigh (ALB); U12 Boys Final - Jayden Go (ALB) bt Orry Farnworth (ALB) 6/0 6/1; U14 Girls winner Charlotte Clarke (ALB) r/up Aalish Kelly (ALB); U14 Boys Gr A - winner Roch Mirski (ALB), r/up Jayden Go (ALB), Gr B winner Jack Christian (ALB), r/up Orry Farnworth (ALB); Semi Finals Jack bt Jayden 4/3 4/1, Roch bt Orry 4/0 4/0, Final Roch bt Jack 6/3 6/1. Boys 18  r/r winner Roch, r/up Jayden,  U12 Boys Doubles winners Jayden Go/Sam Harris (ALB), r/up Greg Kelly (ALB)/Orry Farnworth. U14 mixed doubles Aalish Kelly/Jayden Go bt Jack Christian/Sarah Long.(ALB)7/6 (6) 6/2. Some of these players are also members of other clubs.

There were two other awards made on the day - Most Improved in the last 12 months - Charlotte Clarke. Twelve year old Charlotte has just returned from playing in the sanatorium Ladies inter-County team.  Best under 18 player - Katie Harris (ALB) - Katie will be off to the US soon on a tennis scholarship and we all wish her a happy and successful time there. Also Katie was a member of the Ladies team in the Island Games winning team Gold in Gotland.
