The Isle of Man will have the honour of being the only leading space jurisdiction in the world to be the focus of a special workshop at the 30th Space Studies Program in Cork.
Organised by the International Space University, the 2017 SSP runs for nine weeks at the Cork Institute of Technology. Supported by NASA and the European Space Agency, it offers professional development to more than 100 executives and postgraduate students in space-related fields, including policy, law, business, life sciences and engineering.
Dr Jennifer Stone will represent the ManSat Group at the workshop on Friday, July 28, which is also being supported by the Isle of Man Government’s Department of Economic Development, Cavendish, ICM and SES.
Dr Stone, of Onchan, graduated from the same ISU program 10 years ago when it was staged in Beijing, China.
‘It’s a great honour for the Isle of Man to be the subject of an ISU workshop that will highlight the Island as one of the world’s leading space jurisdictions,’ explained Dr Stone, Regulatory Affairs Manager for ManSat.
The workshop will mark the culmination of a busy month for the ManSat Group.
On July 5th, ManSat CEO and Chairman Chris Stott was in Cork to chair the SSP Entrepreneurs Panel, for which he was joined by leading figures within the space and satellite sector – Brian Rishikoff, CEO of Odyssey Space Research; Meidad Pariente, CEO of Sky & Space Global; Adil Jafry, CEO of Chandah Space Technologies; and Yonatan Weintraub, founder of SpaceIL.
ManSat also supported the participation of retired astronaut Nicole Stott in the SSP Astronauts Panel, alongside Dr. Robert Thirsk of Canada, Soyeon Yi of South Korea (who opened Institute of International Space Commerce in the Isle of Man 10 years ago), and Dan Tani of NASA.
Meanwhile, this week three Isle of Man students - Ciara Sowerby from Ballakermeen High School, Jowi Szetu, from Castle Rushen High School, and Will Farrant from Ramsey Grammar School – have flown to Houston to take part in NASA’s annual United Space School, having won scholarships provided by the ManSat Group.
ManSat carries out satellite filings for the Isle of Man under a contract with the Isle of Man Government's Communications Commission.
