Award-winning homebuilder Dandara has congratulated Alex Honour on being named Isle of Man Football Association Under 21 Women’s Player of the Year.
Centre-midfielder Alex plays for Dandara-sponsored Laxey Football Club’s women’s team, which returned to the senior ladies’ league last season after an absence of some four years. The club focused on developing junior players during that time and thanks to that work was able to field a strong senior side for the 2016/17 season.
With support from sponsor Dandara, which has sponsored the Laxey junior teams for many years, the Glen Road-based side finished sixth in the table at the end of its first season back in the league.
When the IOM FA announced its annual awards, Alex, 16, was named as U21 Women’s Player of the Year, a huge achievement for a young player in her first season in women’s football.
She will be handed the award on Friday during the IOM FA’s presentation ceremony.
Dandara Marketing Director Joanna Orton said: ‘As a long-time sponsor of football in Laxey, we were pleased to add our support as the club’s women’s team returned to the league. Finishing sixth in the table in the first season is a solid start and we’re looking forward to seeing how high they can climb when the new season gets under way.
‘We are absolutely delighted for Alex, who is a young player who’s talents have shone through during her debut season. It is testament to Laxey’s training and squad development that Alex has been named U21 Player of the Year at the end of her first season and on behalf of all at Dandara I’d like to say a huge well done.’
