Grant Thornton was delighted to welcome Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney to its Douglas offices.

Sir Richard had requested the visit to the accounting and audit company’s Athol Street offices in order to better understand the business and its role in the Manx economy. His Excellency is keen to assist businesses to benefit the local economy wherever he can, including utilising his international contacts which could help secure business for the Island.

Grant Thornton Isle of Man Chairman Dennis McGurgan and the board of directors welcomed the Lieutenant Governor, showing him around the offices, introducing him to members of staff and showcasing the range of services the company offers, including the accountancy practice and the corporate services division.

Mr McGurgan said: ‘It was a real honour to have the Lieutenant Governor visit us and have the opportunity to show him our business.

‘In a challenging time for international economies there are business opportunities for agile jurisdictions like the Isle of Man and we’re enthused that His Excellency is really interested in helping the Isle of Man and growing local industry.’

Sir Richard added: ‘I thoroughly enjoyed visiting Grant Thornton. I’ve toured a number of local businesses and I’m always impressed by how innovative and diverse they are.

‘The eagerness to look at ways to grow business and promote the Island internationally is clear. I’m keen to help where I can. ’
