Lesley Sleight represented England at the IFAA World Bowhunter Championships in Florence, Italy alongside 1660 archers.
Competing in Ladies Traditional Recurve Lesley shot a personal best performance on the first day unmarked animal round to finish in eighth position. After a rest day Lesley achieved another personal best in the 3D round but dropped to ninth position. The Hunter round on the third day proved a difficult challenge and Lesley put in a below par performance which cost her ten places moving down to 19thposition. On the final day another personal best on the animal round enabled Lesley to finish in 17th position out of 58 archers.
Lesley was also selected to shoot for England in the Traditional Recurve Team event with John Allan and Phil Huborn-King and finished in 7th position.
Lesley said: ‘This was my first International Competition using a Traditional Recurve and I was pleased with my performance. It was just a shame that one bad day cost me so many places. The courses were extremely challenging made more so by the intense heat. There were many incidents where bows came to pieces because of the high temperatures. I am looking forward to competing for England next month in the IFAA European Field Championships held in Germany.”
