Huge crowds attend Ramsey Sprint

by isleofman.com 7th June 2017

Awful weather greeted the Straightliners crew but with rain abating and a strong track drying wind helping the meeting got underway at 12.30pm. A break at 3pm saw the WHITE HELMETS display team put on a final show, they disband at the end of the year after 90 years.

Stealing the show was Gary Leach riding his Slick Bass tuned ZX10R Kawasaki. He stunned everyone with a final shootout run of 5.73secs, just 1/100th shy of the track record to win the SUPERSTREET class plus fastest time of the day and fastest Manx.

Up to the final 4 shootout Gary was tied on 5.76secs with Alan Morrison who held number 1 spot by 5 mph, Alan on 136mph and Gary on 131mph. Alan finished in 2nd with that 5.76secs.

Third was Phil Wood, who had run a 5.76secs on Sunday but could only manage a 5.80secs today. 4th was Mark Patman, the last man to run a 5 on 5.95secs.

Big thanks go to the Ramsey Town Commissioners and workers who put out the ropes and barriers in the pouring rain, the Straightliners crew and the Paramedics.
