HSBC bolsters compliance capabilities in Crown Dependencies with senior appointment

by isleofman.com 7th June 2017

HSBC in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man has continued to bolster its compliance function and capabilities in tackling financial crime with a senior appointment.

The Bank has created a new role to recruit Bradley Bismark as Head of Financial Crime Compliance (FCC).

In this key role, based in Jersey, Bradley has taken on responsibility for the financial crime risk function, which will ensure the Bank is able to detect and deter financial crime and effectively protect its customers.

With almost two decades of experience in risk and financial crime analytics in a banking environment, Bradley has worked in six different countries for HSBC with this being his third role as a country Head of FCC. Most recently, he was Head of FCC for HSBC Bangladesh. A Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), he has unrivalled expertise in developing strategies to fight financial crime, and has played a key role in developing HSBC’s FCC functions in the countries he has worked in.

Commenting on his new role, Bradley said: “The global landscape in which banks exist has changed significantly in recent years, including in their obligations to comply with rafts of new regulation. Across the islands, we are committed to staying at the cutting-edge of international developments in this area, so that customers benefit from a robust, efficient and reliable banking service.”

He added: “Whether it’s through laundering money generated from illegal narcotics or funding terrorist activity, financial criminals are constantly seeking to get past security systems and, where they are successful, society end up paying the price. Given their stature as international finance centres, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man do not escape the threat posed by criminals and fraudsters, and it is important for us to stay one step ahead. We are continuing to invest heavily in our efforts to fight financial crime and protect customers so that they can manage their money and do business with confidence.”
