Michael Potter, long-standing member of ManSat’s Board of Advisors, will be advising a select working group with the US Government’s Federal Communications Commission (FCC) tasked with accelerating the deployment of broadband throughout the entire United States and its associated territories.
He has specifically joined a team from the Federal Communications Commission’s Broadband Deployment Advisory Committee, tasked with developing model state codes.
Michael is the founder of Geeks Without Frontiers, a non-profit organisation focused on positively impacting the lives of a billion people over the next 10 years through innovative use of technology, connectivity and sustainable social enterprise models.
He has extensive commercial experience in developing broadband networks, having served on the Board of Directors of Global Connect, a Danish internet infrastructure provider, which has deployed nearly 10,000 miles of fibre optic network in Northern Europe. Michael was also a co-founder of Esprit Telecom, the first pan-European competitive telecommunications service provider.
‘There is a direct relationship between connectivity, bandwidth and sustainable economic development,’ Michael explained. ‘I have spent my entire professional career accelerating broadband connectivity and it is an honour to be able to play a role in identifying and developing solutions for how to scale sustainable broadband connectivity in the US.’
ManSat CEO and Chair Chris Stott said: ‘We are proud that Michael has been appointed to such an important working group, and he brings vast experience and knowledge to the table. ManSat has a strong advisory board, and we as a company, not to mention the Isle of Man, benefit from that knowledge and experience which Michael and our other Advisors bring to ManSat.’
Michael has further links to the Island with his strong interests in filmmaking, where he was the director, editor and producer on the award-winning documentary Orphans of Apollo, which he chose to premiere at the Manx Museum.
