Isle of Man Archery Club Report 21st May

by isleofman.com 23rd May 2017

Weather conditions were expected to be poor on Sunday after heavy overnight rains but temperatures climbed throughout the day and the waterproofs and wind cheaters were shed pretty early on. The round of the day was a 720, that is 72 arrows shot at a single distance (70m for Recurve/50m for Compound with Juniors shooting distances appropriate to their age group).

With near perfect shooting conditions there were a number of pb’s recorded over the day. In the Gents compound Dave Moore added 6 points to his pb for the round and then carried on into the afternoon session to add 5 points to his pb for the Double 720. Unfortunately this was not good enough for the win as Rhys Moore equalled the Club record for the round which he set the previous week and then broke the Club Record for the Double by 14 points  in the afternoon. Pete Mumford took the final place on the podium.

In the Gents Recurve division Carl Moon added an outstanding 118 points to his pb for the round but still had to settle for third place. Josh Trafford started well but went off the boil quickly, while Danny Cowin put in solid subtotals which meant that he was never under any pressure and easily took the win.

Joy Gough had another decent round in spite of a miss early on and is heading towards where she needs to be as the Island Games in Gotland get ever closer.

Barbara Harris on the other hand had a nightmare of a morning missing a total of 5 times which contributed to a poor overall score.
Four Juniors turned up in the afternoon to shoot and made the most of their time. Toby Young shot a 122-50 for the first time (72 arrows on 122cm target face at 50m) and put in an excellent benchmark score.

James Hill shot a 122-40 and added 7 points to his pb which would have been higher but for a handful of misses.

Jacob Brookes and Nathan Kinrade shot a 122-30. Nathan added 11 points to his pb for the round, whilst Jacob Brookes added 23 points to his pb to take the win.
