Port Erin's Mantons Cards has been named as the runner up in The British Independent Retailers Association Awards.

The greeting card and gift specialists impressed the judges who said: “Mantons stood out as having a broad variety of achievements which impressed the judges, not just working to improve one aspect of their business but many elements at the same time.  As the only Manx company to ever reach the final, Mantons has put the Isle of Man firmly on the retail map.”

"Obviously I was a little disappointed that the Mantons Team wasn't named as the overall winner but considering the number of businesses we were competing against, the team should be incredibly proud of their achievements. I am especially pleased that this award recognizes the whole Mantons Team who really are the unsung heroes of our success." commented owner Chris Beards.

"I would personally like to thank all of the team for all their fantastic commitment over the last few years, including our previous team members who have also made such a large contribution to the success of Mantons. I would also like to say a special thank you to our customers for their amazing support, especially during the roadwork's currently affecting Port Erin." continued Chris.

The Awards, now in their 19th year, were launched by the British Independent Retailers Association (BIRA) to recognise and reward  the very best independent retailers in the U.K. and to celebrate inspiring businesses who are leading the way and exceeding in challenging times.

Every independent shop in the UK was eligible for the competition and the finalists are chosen on a range of qualities including the quality of products offered,  customer shopping experience, and customer service.  Of special interest to the judges is forward thinking, innovation and team work.

Since 2010 Mantons has won sixteen national awards including the British Independent Retailers Association's 'Independent Retailer of the Year', plus being named as one of the top 100 small businesses in the UK in 2015 and winning the BIRA Hero Award for fundraising and community work in 2016.

2017 is the 30th Anniversary for Mantons and they have already reached three national finals of major awards and hope to have further award success throughout the year.

The prestigious retail awards ceremony was presented by Kate Adie on earlier this week.
