Big crowds at Old Mutual International Junior Rugby Festival

by isleofman.com 10th May 2017
The second annual Old Mutual International Junior Rugby Festival – hosted by Douglas RUFC – proved to be a huge success attracting hundreds of spectators. Teams drawn from rugby union clubs and schools across the Island, and one team from Manchester, took part in the tournament which was supported by entertainment and sideshows for all the family. The tournament featured age group matches from under 7s up to under 16s with games being played on both days of the festival on April 29th and 30th.

To celebrate its role as title sponsor, Old Mutual International handed out various prizes and provided branded giveaways. The company’s Managing Director, Peter Kenny, said: “As the main sponsor of Douglas RUFC we were delighted to support the festival again. It was great to see so much enthusiasm for the sport on the Island. On behalf of Old Mutual International I would like to thank the many club officials, volunteers, players, coaches and spectators for their contribution to what was a brilliant community and sporting occasion.”

The festival helped to cap what has been an excellent season for Douglas RUFC – on the weekend following the festival the club’s 1st XV clinched promotion to the North 1 West division for the first time after a dramatic 15-14 victory in a play-off match against Salford-based side De La Salle.
