The Island’s Environment Minister has welcomed the opportunity to engage with opposite numbers from the UK’s Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies.
Geoffrey Boot MHK attended the UK Overseas Territory and Crown Dependency Environment Ministerial Meeting in Alderney, Channel Isles.
The meeting built on the success of an inaugural gathering of the Ministers, held in Gibraltar two years ago.
Minister Boot said: ‘As outlined in the Programme for Government, it is important we engage internationally on issues affecting the Isle of Man.
‘The meeting gave me a chance to discuss with fellow Ministers the opportunities and challenges of Brexit.
‘We also discussed issues such as waste management and recycling, climate change, management of natural resources and planning and the built heritage, sharing best practice and learning from each other.
‘The meeting was interested to learn more about our membership of UNESCO’s world network of Biosphere Reserves and the advantages it is bringing to the Island.
‘The gathering provided an excellent opportunity for me to forge relationships with Ministers from other jurisdictions, discuss shared challenges and demonstrate the excellent progress the Island is making in areas that impact on our environment.’
